Match Review: Rangers 3-1 Dundee..

Rangers closed the gap on rivals Celtic to five points with a 3-1 victory over Dundee at Ibrox.

The Perth side took a surprise lead after just five minutes when Amadou Bakayoko took advantage of some poor Rangers defending to finish from close range.

The Light Blues were level just 15 minutes later following a brilliant strike from Cyriel Dessers, though it did appear to take a slight deflection off the Dundee defender.

Captain James Tavernier put the home side in front in the 26th minute from the penalty spot, following a foul by Aaron Donnelly on Abdallah Sima from a corner. Sima then found himself on the scoresheet once again 8 minutes later, with a powerful header from Tavernier's corner making it 3-1 to the Gers.

Rangers would however go in at half time with ten men after Jose Cifuentes was dismissed by referee Kevin Clancy for a stamp on Bakauoko following a VAR review.

Dundee's claim for a penalty just past the hour mark was dismissed by Clancy, with Dujon Sterling's foul deemed to have been just outside the penalty area, much to the relief of the home supporters.

Dundee's search for their first win at Ibrox since 2001 continues - this was also their 16th consecutive defeat on the west side of Glasgow. Rangers are now undefeated in 13 games in all competitions.

Clement: "It's a deserved victory. Even with 10, we were the team that created the best chances in the second half. The team is growing to become a team, to have the right mentality, to do the right things together."

Rangers will travel to Spain to face Real Betis on Thursday for their crucial Europa League clash, with only a victory securing qualification to the last-16 of the competition for Clement's men, before the League Cup final against Aberdeen on Sunday, December 17.
