Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 at Hampden Park to win the 2023/24 Viaplay Cup final, the first time the Light Blues have won the competition since 2011 and delivering Philippe Clement silverware just two months into his tenure as Rangers boss.

James Tavernier's acrobatic strike after 76 minutes proved decisive, in a game that was lacking in quality in the final third of the pitch - this was the Rangers captain's 115th goal for the club since arriving at Ibrox in 2015.

After a lacklustre and frustrating first half, Rangers improved in the second with Cyriel Dessers, Ross McCausland and Leon Balogun going close for Clement's side before Tavernier's winning effort.

After an Aberdeen penalty claim in injury time was dismissed leading to a goalmouth fracas, referee Don Robertson blew the final whistle following 10 minutes of stoppage time - leading to joyous celebrations from the 25,000 Rangers supporters inside the national stadium.

Clement: "It's great to get our hands on silverware after just nine weeks together. There's not one fan or board member who is more demanding to win than me. That's my character.. I know with the mentality that is growing that we can do really good things this season."

Clement remains undefeated in his first 15 games in charge at Ibrox and with bitter rivals Celtic losing 2-0 against Hearts on Saturday, the Gers now sit just 5 points behind the league leaders with 2 games in hand. On Thursday the Light Blues also secured qualification to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League with a 3-2 victory over Real Betis in Seville.
